What 𘌾 means
Only the surrounding Tangut words can pin down its meaning. A Tangut word reference reconstructs its reading in scholarly Latin-letter notation as biar¹; this represents a sound, not an English translation. Unicode's serial name identifies the character but does not gloss it.
The 12th-century Sea of Writing is a Tangut rhyme dictionary, a reference book that groups entries by rhyme. It lists 𘌾 under the rhyme heading 𗉾; that is a dictionary classification, not a synonym.
Why was the Tangut script created?
It served the Western Xia state and Tangut identity.
Western Xia was a medieval state in northwest China. Its ruler Li Yuanhao ordered the script in 1036. Government schools taught it, officials used it for documents, and it was used to print Buddhist scriptures translated from Chinese and Tibetan.
Surviving material from Khara-Khoto—a store of manuscripts and printed books—also contains Confucian, military, encyclopedic, and literary works alongside Buddhist texts. Tangut use continued after Western Xia fell in 1227. The last known Tangut examples are dharani pillars, inscribed Buddhist monuments, erected in 1502.
Why does 𘌾 show as a box?
Your app needs a font with Tangut glyphs.
Support can differ in browsers versus other applications: a web font may render Tangut on a webpage even when a separate app displays an empty box. Noto Serif Tangut and Tangut Yinchuan are documented font choices; the character itself has not changed.

A box means the font lacks this glyph; it does not reveal the character's meaning.

1Why does 𘌾 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
