What ⸛ means
It marks a capitalization change in an abbreviated stem. A stem is the base part of a word used to form related words. In a German dictionary example, Buchmacher is shortened to ⸛mäßig: the mark stands for the stem and shows that the derived form is buchmachermäßig, with a lowercase initial.
A 2007 standards comment also reproduces a dictionary using the same mark to repeat an entry word. That is one dictionary’s convention; the Unicode chart describes the case-change use, so follow the entry’s own key when the readings differ.
What if someone sends me ⸛?
As of 2026, it has no stable chat meaning. If it appears in a note about word forms, read it as dictionary punctuation; otherwise, use the surrounding message to work out why it was sent.
⸛ is its own punctuation character, not a tilde followed by a combining ring. If a font lacks its glyph, it may show a fallback design or missing-character box; that changes the display, not the text character.
