upper right quadrant chess rook

Upper-right chess rook quadrant

196/686

This chess rook fragment is the upper-right quarter of a larger picture, not a full piece. On its own, it shows only that one corner.

What 𜳃 means

It was one of four cells in a computer drawing.

On the Sharp MZ-700 home computer, the European alternate character set gave each rook quarter its own character; arranged as a square, the four cells form the full picture. In 1983, the MZ-700's text graphics included chess pieces. Code D6 identified this tile only in that MZ set, not as a Unicode input value.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜳃 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
