Why does this arrow look like a Wingdings symbol?
Its computer-icon design comes from a family shaped by symbol fonts. The Wingdings arrow design belongs to the computer-icon family: Microsoft dates its design work to 1990–1991 and its release to 1992. These fonts supplied computer and interface icons, including arrows for pointing and indicating. In 2011, Unicode proposals brought Wingdings and Webdings glyphs forward for assigned text characters, so documents would not depend on a particular symbol font.
Diagrammatic and technical; it reads as a direction or layout cue more than an emotional reply.
“Up” alone does not say whether to increase, continue, move, or select.
