What ꖱ means
It represents the Vai syllable ju.
Vai writing began in Liberia in the early 1830s, chiefly through Momolu Duwalu Bukele, who later said a dream inspired it. The oldest Vai texts include whole-word logograms. In Liberia and Sierra Leone, the script served correspondence, schooling, trade, stories and religious texts. In the first half of the 20th century, Mende, Loma and Kpelle writing followed its syllabic pattern but used distinct characters. A possible Cherokee influence on the Vai script remains unproven.
Why does ꖱ show as a box?
Your font may lack Vai. Old 8-bit fonts use other encodings; Vai signs do not join or reshape, so outline changes alone do not change the syllable.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꖱ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
