What ꖒ means
It writes one Vai syllable: “moo.” That is its sound reading, not a word meaning.
Vai is a syllabary: each sign represents one spoken syllable. Six to eight Vai speakers devised it in Liberia around 1833 to write Vai; its earliest known sample is a page dated 1834 at Harvard.
Vai records include letters, ledgers, religious records, and family histories. From 1834 to 2005, hand copying compressed its forms. In the first half of the 20th century, the syllabic model influenced Mende, Loma, and Kpelle. A Vai influence on Bamum is possible; the later Bagam syllabary drew on Bamum. Each script has its own signs.
