What ꔎ means
It writes the Vai syllable labeled “tee”; it is not an emoji.
“Tee” is a sound label, not a translation. The Vai script is a syllabary: a writing system whose characters represent syllables, so the surrounding Vai text supplies the word’s meaning.
How did the Vai script develop?
Vai speakers in Liberia developed the script in the early 1830s.
Mọmọlu Duwalu Bukẹlẹ was its principal developer, working with other Vai speakers. The script supported correspondence and record-keeping, especially among merchants and traders, as Vai literacy grew alongside English and Arabic literacy.
The earliest surviving dated samples begin in 1834. Manuscripts from 1834–2005 show the glyphs changing; the Book of Ndole, a surviving early manuscript around 1845, preserves an older stage. Early Vai texts also used logograms—marks for whole words—alongside syllable signs. Vai writing later inspired other indigenous writing systems in West Africa. Latin, Arabic, and Cherokee have been suggested as influences, but no single ancestry is settled.
Script-specific: it belongs in Vai text, a Vai quotation, or a discussion of the script.
Sent alone to someone who cannot read Vai, it offers little context; add a gloss.

Questions people ask
2Why does ꔎ show as a square or question mark?
Your font lacks Vai coverage. Choose a font that supports the script; changing the keyboard cannot make an unsupported glyph appear.
Why do old Vai manuscripts show different forms?
Vai glyphs changed over time, so an older manuscript can preserve a form that looks different from the character in modern text.
