What 𞋲 means
It marks two in Wancho writing. In multi-digit figures, it follows decimal place value: 𞋲𞋰 means 20. The script has its own digit set from zero through nine.
Why was the Wancho script created?
It was made to write Wancho more accurately. Banwang Losu began developing it in 2001 after finding Roman letters inadequate for some Wancho sounds, especially tone. The script also gave a way to write and record stories and songs traditionally passed on orally.
Does Wancho use a base-20 number system?
Some recorded spoken number words build on twenty. A 1995 linguistic study describes Wancho forms for 40, 60, 80 and 100 that are built from twenties. This describes spoken counting; the written digit set is decimal, so 𞋲 still means two.
