What 𞋂 means
It writes the consonant /b/ in Wancho. Wancho is an alphabet, so consonants and vowels have separate letters. 𞋂 contributes /b/ when spelling a word; by itself, it is only a letter, not a complete word.
When was the Wancho script created?
Banwang Losu developed it from 2001 to 2012.
He first tried Roman spelling but found it could not represent Wancho's tone distinctions, which can change word meanings. A teaching textbook followed in 2013. The new script marks tone on vowel letters; 𞋂 itself supplies the consonant. Its letter designs draw on local references such as tattoos, birds, animals, and crafts. Wancho is also written in Latin or Devanagari; by 2024, lessons and exams in the dedicated script were offered in government schools in Longding.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𞋂 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Wancho block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
