What ꐧ means
It spells the Yi syllable jjut, with high tone. In the standardized Liangshan Yi romanization, the doubled j belongs to the spelling, and the final t marks high tone.
Yi writing's beginnings are disputed. The earliest surviving Yi inscription identified in the historical record is on a bronze bell dated 1485; claims of earlier pottery, stone, and bronze evidence have also been recorded. None establishes that this exact modern glyph was already in use then.
Earlier local Yi scripts carried religious, magical, medical, and genealogical texts through bimo lineages; bimo are Yi ritual specialists. The Liangshan Yi writing standard was devised in 1974 to support literacy and officially promulgated in 1980, then used for public documents, newspapers, and literature.
What should you do if someone sends ꐧ alone?
Treat it as a syllable of Yi text, not a complete message. By itself, one written syllable cannot tell you the word or the sender’s intention; ask for the surrounding words or where the text came from.
The standardized Liangshan syllabary developed from traditional Yi ideographs—signs standing for words or ideas—rather than Han Chinese characters. Other regional Yi writing traditions are historically related, but their forms are not automatically interchangeable.
Neutral text; its tone belongs to the Yi syllable and the surrounding words.
A single Yi syllable is not a universal reaction; the recipient needs Yi context.

A box or blank means the font or app lacks a glyph for ꐧ; it does not change what the character represents. As of 2026, missing-font output can appear as a box or blank. Try a font with Yi coverage.
