alien spider crouching

Crouching Alien Spider

𜱒 is a crouched alien sprite—a small game image—from the European Sharp MZ-700 home computer of the early 1980s. Its fixed 8 × 8 text cells formed game pictures; a 2022 Unicode proposal preserved it for conversion and emulation. The MZ-700's BASIC programming language could display it from a program, but not type it directly.

What 𜱒 means

A ready-made game picture from the MZ-700 character set.

In the early 1980s, the European MZ-700 included it in a second built-in set of 8 × 8 game pictures for its text screen.

Computer makers usually showed character charts without naming each glyph, so Unicode supplied the descriptive name in its 2022 proposal. The 2024 Unicode chart is a reference, so modern fonts may draw it differently.

Read the creature literally; the sender's tone needs context.

Why does 𜱒 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
