What ➵ means
It points right and adds a decorative flourish.
Bernard Forest de Bélidor used a feathered arrow for water flow and wheel rotation in his French engineering book Hydraulic Architecture (1737).
Maps from that era traced rivers; arrows charted armies in 1903 and meant logical implication by 1922.
Why is ➵ a dingbat arrow?
It comes from ornamental symbol type.
Dingbats mark or decorate text. The Unicode Dingbats block draws heavily on ITC Zapf Dingbats 100, a symbol font designed for computer publishing in 1975–1978.
Without a matching font, it may appear as a box or a different arrow.

3Questions people ask
1Why does ➵ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
