Text symbol

What 𜵷 means

It fills four of eight sections in a cell. The digits name the filled sections; the cell has two columns and four rows, and neighboring tiles form a larger shape.

A Kaypro 10 computer guide from 1983 describes graphics cells made of eight pixels in two columns and four rows. Unicode's mapping preserves this pattern from Kaypro's graphics set, where character cells let programs draw coarse images.

The same mosaic approach appears in sextant blocks, which split a text cell into two columns and three rows. As of 2026, Kitty and VTE-based terminals support octants; xterm.js lacks this supplement.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜵷 show as a box on some devices?

It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
