Block Octant-13578

443/686

𜷀 is a five-cell tile from the 24 graphics set used on Kaypro computers. It let programs make low-resolution pictures inside a text screen by joining character cells. Unicode preserves it for old text files, emulators, and text-mode graphics.

What 𜷀 means

It marks five filled cells in a tiny graphics tile. Kaypro graphics used a 24 mosaic grid, with the digits 13578 naming its selected cells. Join character cells and they form a low-resolution picture.

A Kaypro 10 user guide from 1983 describes these eight-block cells as a way to draw within character positions on a text screen. Unicode later preserved the pattern for faithful text conversion, emulators, and text-mode drawings.

Questions people ask

1

Why does it show as a box on my screen?

It usually means the chosen font has no glyph for this character; some apps show a box, another fallback mark, or blank space. Cascadia Code added octant glyph support in 2024, but display still depends on the font and app.
