What 𜶉 means

Its digits label the four filled parts. An octant divides a block into eight; 1458 marks the selected positions.

This is semigraphics: using text characters as tiny picture tiles. Each character cell—the small box for one character—joins its neighbors in a drawing.

How did Kaypro use these graphics?

Kaypro's 2×4 semigraphics appear in the Kaypro 10 user's guide from 1983: each text cell held eight on/off patches, letting programs draw pictures and borders.

Unicode carries the patterns as text characters. In April 2024, Microsoft announced octant support in the Cascadia Code font for terminal art.

Why is it showing as a box?

It may be a font issue: the app needs an octant-supporting font. Check the selected font if the pattern is blank or missing.
