𜵟 is one mosaic tile for terminal graphics, with five of its eight small blocks filled. Other octants can sit beside it to form a chunky-pixel picture.

Text symbol

What 𜵟 means

It gave Kaypro text screens pieces for pictures. A 1984 user guide describes Kaypro graphics cells as two columns by four rows of pixels. Unicode maps this pattern to Kaypro’s reverse set, byte E2, where inverse video swaps light and dark.

Earlier half-block and quadrant characters made coarser mosaics. Unicode octants split a cell more finely, carrying that terminal-art idea into text.
