Block Octant-24578

448/686

This mosaic tile gives a text picture a pixel-like pattern: one character holds filled and open cells. Joined to other octants, it forms terminal graphics.

Text symbol

What 𜷅 means

It fills selected cells in a text-cell mosaic.

An octant splits a text cell into two columns and four rows. Its digits mark filled cells in order: 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8.

Kaypro CP/M computers used these blocks for text graphics in the 1980s. This shape belongs to Kaypro's reverse character set, which swapped foreground and background. A box means your font or terminal cannot draw it; mosaic tiles also need fixed-width cells to line up.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜷅 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
