What means
An octant is a small graphic tile built from eight cells. Kaypro's semigraphics split each character position into two columns and four rows; this tile fills cells 4, 5, 7 and 8. Adjacent positions joined into larger pixel-like drawings.
By 1983, a Kaypro 10 guide documents software switching cells on and off to draw lines, circles, rectangles and bars. Unicode's proposal names the eight-cell grid “octants” by analogy with four-part block quadrants. Its source table gives the Kaypro Reverse-set byte as 9B in hexadecimal—an old character code, not a modern keyboard shortcut.

Questions people ask
1Why does show as a box on some devices?
It is recent: Unicode added it in version 16.0 (2024), and phones and computers whose fonts are older than that have nothing to draw it with. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
