What means
An octant is one text character divided into eight pixel-like cells. The digits in its name show which cells are filled, so it can serve as a tile in a larger low-resolution picture.
The exact pattern maps to a tile in Kaypro’s reverse graphics set, where light and dark pixels were swapped. A 1983 guide for the Kaypro 10 computer explains why such tiles mattered: one text cell held eight pixels in four rows by two columns, letting software draw lines and shapes.

Questions people ask
1Why does this octant show as a box?
The font or terminal renderer may not support octants, so it can substitute the replacement mark (as of 2026-09-28).
