block octant-34

Block Octant-34

257/686

This semigraphics tile fills two of a character cell’s eight mini-cells, forming part of a picture. Kaypro computers used 2 4 mosaics for text-screen drawings by 1984. As of 2026, some terminal renderers use the grid as colored pseudo-pixels.

Text symbol

What 𜴆 means

It filled two of eight tiny cells in a drawing grid.

On Kaypro computers running CP/M, an operating system, each character space held a 2 4 grid. Software turned its blocks on or off, arranging neighboring characters into pictures. Doug Mahugh’s SCS-Draw used this method.

Unicode later encoded such patterns to preserve compatibility with older computers and terminals.
