𜴇 is a three-cell mosaic tile for text-mode graphics. Kaypro computers arranged tiles like it into low-resolution pictures, placing one small pattern in each character position.

What 𜴇 means

It fills cells 1, 3, and 4 in a character-sized tile. An octant is one character space divided into two columns and four rows. A program can arrange these patterns in neighboring positions to draw a larger pixel picture in text mode.

The 1983 Kaypro 10 guide documents this 2 4 graphics system. Kaypro's normal-video (not reversed) byte 8E represents this exact pattern.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜴇 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
