What 𜷗 means

The digits name its filled cells. Read left to right, top to bottom: cells 3, 4, 6, 7 and 8 are filled.

Early microcomputers used preset tiles to draw on text screens. A Kaypro II user began SCS-Draw, a paint program, in 1984; it treated each character cell as eight pixels. Kaypro’s graphics table lists this exact pattern as character A3. The octant grid extends older 22 quadrant and 23 sextant mosaics. In 2026, terminal examples show octants used for pixel art and charts.

1

Will it display in every terminal?

No. Many fonts lack these glyphs, and some terminals draw them themselves. A 2026 support tracker shows coverage varies by emulator.
