Block Octant-38

367/686

𜵴 fills two of eight tiny cells in a character tile. Kaypro, an early personal-computer line, used this pattern for screen graphics. As of 2026, the text-based terminal library ratatui documents octants as compact pixels for plots.

What 𜵴 means

It fills subdivisions 3 and 8 of a 24 character cell.

The exact pattern maps to code C8 in the Kaypro's normal graphics set. Kaypro was an early personal-computer line. Its 1984 technical manual describes a graphics mode for switching individual screen pixels or drawing lines. In a 24 mosaic, neighboring text cells combine into larger low-resolution pictures.

Questions people ask

1

Why does this octant show as a box?

It can. As of 2026, ratatui's octant documentation says an unsupported terminal may show UFFFD, the Unicode replacement character, instead. Check that both the terminal and font support the character.
