What 𑄶 means
It means zero in the Chakma numeral set.
Chakma has its own ten digits, from 𑄶 to 𑄿, though Bengali digits also appear in Chakma writing. Switching between the sets changes how a number is written, not its value.
Chakma writing also appears in practical manuscripts, including medical records and handbooks used by Boidyo, traditional healers. This zero serves its ordinary role in written numbers.
Why can Chakma zero look different?
Its value stays zero across scripts and regional styles.
Chakma is a Brahmic-type script, part of a family of writing systems used across South and Southeast Asia. A 2009 Unicode proposal notes a close relationship between Chakma and Myanmar scripts and records regional glyph variation between India and Bangladesh; some Chakma forms are rounder, like Myanmar styles.
Chakma histories called Bijag preserve traditional accounts of ancestral manuscripts written on palm leaves in Brahmi, an older South Asian script. Written references to the Chakma people appear from the 10th century onward in Burmese and Arakanese histories. That history concerns the people and writing tradition; it does not date the first appearance of 𑄶.
An ordinary numeral in Chakma writing; its value does not change with its visual style.
A box usually means missing Chakma font coverage, not a different value.

Your font may lack Chakma coverage. As of 2026, the IPD Linux layout page notes that Ubuntu’s built-in Noto coverage misses some Chakma glyphs. Choose a font with Chakma support; the box is a missing-glyph placeholder.
