What 暜 means
To preserve a Taiwan CNS 11643 character through conversion.
Taiwan’s character-encoding standard CNS 11643 began in 1986 and expanded in 1992; this form comes from its sixth character table. Unicode preserves it for conversion to and from that standard.
暜 maps to 暜, an older form of 普. The early character dictionary Shuowen Jiezi gives the old gloss “sun without color”; 普 later carries “general” and “widespread” senses.
