Downwards Arrow With Tip Rightwards

28/104

↳ is a bent arrow that goes down and then points right. It means "this belongs under the line above": a sub-item, a reply, a detail or the next step. You'll meet it at the start of indented lines in notes, lists, bios and captions. It is a plain text symbol, not an emoji.

Text symbol

What ↳ means

It hangs that line under the one above it. The shape draws the link: a line drops from the item above and turns right into the new line, the way an outline or a family tree connects a branch to its parent. So "Trip ideas" followed by "↳ Lisbon" and "↳ Porto" reads as two options under one heading, and "Meeting moved ↳ now Thursday" reads as a detail of the first statement.

The same logic covers its other everyday jobs: marking a reply or comment under a post in notes and documents, showing a result ("Step 3 ↳ save the file"), and leading the eye from a profile bio or caption to the link or detail on the next line.

What does it mean when someone sends it?

A pointer, not a feeling. ↳ carries no tone of its own. In a message it usually says "here's the follow-up" or "this answers the line above". Sent alone, it most likely means "see what comes next" or that a list lost its formatting; ask rather than read a mood into it.

Neutral and tidy: it organises text and says nothing about mood.

Don't read it as the Enter key ; that arrow points left.

Questions people ask

2

Is ↳ an emoji?

No. It is an ordinary text symbol, so it takes the colour and style of the surrounding font and looks slightly different from one app to another.

Can I use ↳ in an Instagram or TikTok bio?

Yes. Bios accept it as normal text; it shows wherever the viewer's font includes it, which most phones and computers do.

Why is ↳ a box on my screen?

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
