What ➭ means
It points right to draw attention. This dingbat—a decorative type symbol—is a right arrow symbol.
The history of arrows runs from pictured routes to symbols for ideas. Around the first century AD, a footprint in the ancient city of Ephesus marked a route; a 1737 book about water systems used an arrow to show water flow. By the mid-to-late nineteenth century, arrows shed feathered tails. In 1922, David Hilbert used one for logical implication: one statement follows from another. Printers also marked passages with manicules, small pointing-hand signs.
Its ornament makes a heading feel deliberately typeset.
For an important direction, name the destination too.
