What 𘮋 means
Treat its Unicode name as an index, not a translation.
Tradition credits Yelü Diela with creating the small script around 925 to write Khitan. Its forms drew on Chinese characters; Uyghur writing is also cited as an inspiration. Examples survive on stone grave inscriptions, monuments, and bronze mirrors. Khitan writing remained in use under Liao, Western Liao, and Jin rule, and Jurchen writing later adapted its forms. It is only partly deciphered as of 2026.
Why do Khitan signs form blocks?
Sound signs cluster to spell words.
Most words used two to eight sound signs in rectangular blocks; whole-word signs usually stood alone. Traditional text ran in vertical columns read from right to left. Without Khitan layout support, a font may display the signs separately.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𘮋 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
