khitan small script character-18cbc

Khitan Small Script Character 18CBC

𘲼 is a Khitan glyph in the partly deciphered Khitan small script, created around 925 CE to write the Khitan language and said to draw on Uyghur writing. The script served the Liao state (907–1125); its surviving texts include funeral inscriptions for Khitan nobles. It remained in use into the Jin dynasty (1115–1234), while Jurchen writing adapted Khitan models. The Unicode name identifies this character, not its reading.

Inside sound clusters, characters are read left to right, then top to bottom. The script also supports horizontal cluster layouts or one-character-at-a-time text.

Why does 𘲼 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
