Large Type Piece Diagonal Upper Right

550/686

𜸫 is a diagonal piece used to build oversized letters on HP terminals in the 1970s. The HP 2640's Large Character Set assembled headlines from small text cells, so this character alone is only one stroke.

What 𜸫 means

It is one segment in a grid that forms oversized letters.

In the HP 2640 large character set, a big letter occupied a 3-by-3 grid of smaller character cells. This diagonal segment filled one cell; the other pieces joined it into headline-size letters and numerals.

The design began as a dedicated display option for HP terminals; as a Unicode character, 𜸫 preserves one component of that old letter-building system. By itself, it is a fragment, not a complete letter.

Technical and archival; outside a constructed grid, it reads only as a diagonal fragment.

Alone, it cannot spell a large letter; it needs the other cell pieces.

Why does 𜸫 show as a box?

A box means the app's font lacks a glyph for 𜸫. The text still carries the character; a font that supports it can display the diagonal segment.
