Large Type Piece Lower Left Corner

𜸽 is one tile in enlarged lettering for Hewlett-Packard (HP) display terminals. It supplies only the lower-left corner; the rest of a large letter takes shape from the other pieces arranged around it.

What 𜸽 means

Nine cells made one oversized character.

HP 2620- and 2640-series terminals had a Large Character Set for enlarged text. This piece filled the lower-left cell of a 3 3 layout; matching strokes and joins from the same set completed each letter.

An HP 2645A reference manual from 1978 demonstrates the arrangement with a large B. Unicode’s proposal identifies the pieces as parts of HP’s terminal character set.

Can any font display this character?

No. A font or app needs a glyph for this character; otherwise it may show as a blank or replacement box. Microsoft’s April 2024 announcement says Cascadia Code 2404.23 includes the large-type pieces.
