Large Type Piece Upper Left Corner

534/686

𜸛 contributes the square upper-left corner of an oversized letter. HP terminals used pieces like this to compose large headlines; each piece is a text character, not a command that enlarges a line.

What 𜸛 means

It is one tile from an HP large-character set. A 1978 HP terminal manual shows a large character assembled from nine segments. The set was meant for headlines on HP 2620 and 2640 terminals; 𜸛 supplies the square upper-left segment.

The original pieces were entries in a terminal character set. Unicode makes them individual text characters rather than a command that resizes a line.

Why does 𜸛 show as a box?

The active font probably lacks a drawing for this character. Microsoft added the large-type set to Cascadia Code in April 2024; other fonts may not include it.
