What ᥍ means
It marks seven in Limbu's decimal number system. The system also builds ordinal, fractional, and multiplicative forms from its numerals.
The oldest known Limbu-script writings were collected in Darjeeling in the 1850s. Modern script development began in Kalimpong in 1925; a revised form appeared in publications from 1928 through the 1970s, before the current form.
Why can ᥍ look different?
Limbu writing has taken several forms over time. The numeral can look different in historical and modern texts while retaining its value. Limbu is Brahmi-derived, part of a family of South Asian writing systems rooted in the ancient Brahmi script.
Limbu has distant script connections to Lepcha, also called Róng, and Tibetan. When Unicode arranged Limbu characters for computers, it followed a model adapted from Tibetan. In eastern Nepal, Sikkim, and Darjeeling, Limbu writing also appears alongside Nepali, sometimes in publications that print Limbu and Devanagari together.
