Lower Centre Right Twelfth Circle

63/686

𜰾 is a circle segment from the Sharp MZ-700, a home computer from the early 1980s. Programs built its screen pictures from fixed character shapes, using this glyph as one piece of a round outline.

What 𜰾 means

It supplies one curved part of a larger screen drawing.

On the Sharp MZ-700 in the early 1980s, 𜰾 was code BA in the European display table. That computer had no graphics commands, so programs assembled pictures from fixed shapes stored in its character memory. BA was the display code, separate from the keyboard input code, so software translated between the two.

In 2022, Unicode's proposal for legacy-computing characters said encoding them would preserve round-trip conversion of old data and support emulators and text-mode graphics.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜰾 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
