𜰼

lower left twelfth circle

Lower Left Twelfth Circle

𜰼 is one curved tile used to draw the lower-left part of a circle on a text grid. Sharp MZ screens used it with other pre-drawn graphics so programs could sketch arcs through character cells. In Unicode text, its appearance still depends on font and terminal support.

What 𜰼 means

It draws one curved piece of a circle.

The 2021 mapping tables show this glyph in the European display sets for Sharp MZ-80K and MZ-700. The MZ-80K, introduced in 1978, showed text in a 40 × 25 grid and could form an 80 × 50-dot image from display characters. That let software use this pre-drawn arc to make rounded outlines instead of plotting each dot.

Unicode's 2021 proposal for more characters from old computers included the Sharp MZ display tables, carrying this drawing tile into modern text. If 𜰼 shows as a box in a terminal window, the text-based app may lack support: as of 2026, some terminal apps draw this circle-segment set and others do not.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜰼 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
