lower left quarter circle

Lower Left Quarter Circle

The lower-left quarter arc was a ready-made piece for text-screen graphics. The European Sharp MZ-80K display set used it among its circle segments; today it is useful when preserving or recreating vintage computer screens.

What 𜰹 means

It is one pre-drawn curve tile for a text-and-graphics screen. The European display table for Sharp’s MZ-80K includes it among built-in graphic characters; the computer launched in 1978. Its screen arranged characters in a grid, so fixed shapes could make simple pictures beside text. A 2021 Unicode proposal maps this glyph to display code B5—the slot assigned to it—and includes it to preserve legacy text for exchange and emulation.

Why does it appear as a box?

The font may not include this glyph. As of 2026, a support chart for command-line terminal apps lists circle-segment support in Ghostty and VTE, but not kitty, urxvt, or xterm.js. If it appears as a missing-glyph box, the text still contains the character; the app cannot draw it with the available font.

Why does 𜰹 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
