What 🞏 means
It is a neutral outline marker; the layout gives it meaning.
An empty square can mark a blank spot or an unchecked task; in a list or diagram, it can mark a category or key. By itself, it does not signal a feeling or an answer.
A 2011 Unicode proposal on Wingdings and Webdings called it “Wingdings box 3.” Those marks had been available through font-specific private-use mappings—custom code slots that worked only with the matching font—or application symbol menus. Encoding them as Unicode characters aimed to make them searchable and interoperable across systems.
Why does this square look different on my device?
The font draws it, so the outline can vary.
Unicode identifies the character, but the chart's picture is a guide rather than required artwork. Fonts may change its border weight, proportions, or spacing. That variation does not change the encoded character.
Neutral and diagram-like; it reads as a layout mark rather than a conversational cue.
A lone square is not a reliable yes, no, or task-complete signal.

1Why did this turn into a box with a question mark?
Your app has no available font glyph for 🞏, so it shows a replacement box. The text may still contain the right character; a font that supports it can display the outline.
