What 𞗺 means

Ol Onal was devised for writing Bhumij, which is also written with Odia, Bengali, Devanagari, and Latin scripts. Mahendra Nath Sardar developed it between 1981 and 1992. In 1992, the Odisha-based organization Adim Bhumij Samaj selected it in a contest among three proposed scripts for writing Bhumij. Its decimal digits let numbers stay in the same script as the words.

Questions people ask

1

Can an old Ol Onal file display the digit differently?

Yes. The first digital fonts changed Ol Onal’s original digit designs in 2013 because the forms were hard to represent. Fonts made in 2013–2014 mapped script characters to Latin-letter positions rather than Unicode, so old files may need their matching font; the value stays nine.
