outlined digit zero

Outlined Digit Zero

241/686

𜳰 is zero drawn with a hollow outline; its number value stays zero. Sharp MZ computers used outlined digits as decorative lettering. A text-normalization step called NFKC can turn it into plain 0.

What 𜳰 means

For logos and computer artwork.

The European character set for the Sharp MZ-700, a home computer released in 1982, included outlined versions of regular digits and capital letters. Its built-in character memory stored their pixel patterns, and the extra forms let creators make display lettering alongside plain text.

Will NFKC change the outlined zero?

Yes. NFKC is a compatibility form of text normalization: it maps this styled digit to plain 0. The zero remains, but the outlined appearance is lost.
