𜰒

receptacle

Receptacle

𜰒 identifies the receiving half of an electrical connector—the socket a plug enters. Sharp MZ computers used this screen sign in circuit diagrams; Unicode preserves it for conversion of older character data.

What 𜰒 means

A socket mark for circuit diagrams. A receptacle receives the plug; 𜰒 identifies that side of the connector.

Sharp MZ display characters grouped it with circuit signs drawn using thin line-and-corner marks. The MZ-80K went on sale in 1978.

A 2021 Unicode proposal included it to preserve older character data, convert it between systems without losing it, and help software imitate old computers. The sign moved from one machine's screen to text that other systems can exchange.
