What ꢲ means
It writes the consonant “ha” within Saurashtra words.
How did the Saurashtra script develop?
Its modernized form took shape in the 1880s. A Saurashtra publication appeared in 1880. Early texts joined consonants; modern spelling uses a visible virama to mark a consonant without its inherent vowel.
Saurashtra books used Tamil, Telugu, Devanagari, and Saurashtra scripts from the late 19th century; Tamil was most common as of 2025. Groups taught the script in February 2024. As of 2026, without a Saurashtra font, ꢲ may show as a box.

Questions people ask
1Why does ꢲ show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
