What ℳ means
It is a script-style M used in math and historical German money.
This math script M can name a set, space, matrix, or another object the author distinguishes from plain M.
As the German Mark sign, ℳ appears in pre-1949 records. The Mark replaced local currencies after the German Empire formed in 1871 and became its sole currency in 1876; Unicode unified that sign with ℳ.
Formal, mathematical, archival, or deliberately decorative.
Treat the money reading as historical unless the record supports it.
