What ⯲ means
⯲ is Sedna’s modern astrology glyph. It labels a chart point; it is not an inherited Inuit writing sign.
The distant solar-system object Sedna was discovered in 2003, and the glyph was devised for astrologers afterward. Astrology software Solar Fire included it as a standard point in 2008.
What does the shape connect to?
Its design reflects Sanna through Canadian syllabics. The creator joined signs for the syllable “sa” and the consonant “n,” drawing on a writing system used for Inuktitut. That explains the glyph’s shape; it does not make the mark an inherited Inuit sign.
Sedna, also named Sanna and Nuliajuk and known by translated names such as Sea Woman and Mother of the Sea, appears in regionally varied Inuit stories. Those stories connect her with the sea, marine animals, hunting, danger, and responsibility. A 2019 study described her as an icon of Inuit identity and survivance—the continued presence of Inuit people and culture. Inuit artist Jason Sikoak discussed regional versions of her story in 2021. Her cultural meanings are broader than astrology’s chart reading.
Specialist shorthand in astrology; outside chart contexts, ⯲ may be hard to interpret.
Calling ⯲ a traditional Inuit sign mistakes its modern astrological design for Inuit writing.
