speckle fill frame-2

Speckle Fill Frame 2

72/686

On Sharp’s MZ-700 home computer, this was the second still in a speckle-fill animation. The MZ-700 launched in November 1982, with a European alternate character set of ready-made screen graphics. A single character shows one frame, so software must switch frames to make the pattern move.

What 𜱇 means

“Frame” means one still image in an animation.

The paired characters and 𜱇 supply the two speckle-fill frames; software can switch between them to make the texture move.

How did the MZ-700 show it?

It came from the MZ-700’s European alternate character set.

Its character generator, a ROM chip for screen shapes, stored each design as an 88 pixel pattern.

Questions people ask

1

Why does 𜱇 show as a box on some devices?

Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
