What 𑯸 means

It stands for the quantity eight. Jentich developed the modern script in 1942 for Kiranti-Kõits (Sunuwar/Mukhia), spoken in Nepal and Sikkim. Its original set included ten decimal digits.

A 2021 Unicode proposal says Latin shaped the script’s overall model and some letterforms, but the script was not derived from another writing system. Kiranti-Kõits became official in Sikkim in 1996; there, Sunuwar is an abugida (consonants carry a built-in vowel), while Nepal uses it as an alphabet. A 2023 survey found native Sunuwar counting knowledge varied by location; some counted in Nepali.
