Tangut Component 067

67/768

On its own, 𘡂 is a Tangut component: a structural part used to describe and index larger Tangut characters, not a complete word with a one-word English meaning. It belongs to scholarly analysis, dictionary lookup, and specialist Tangut input. If it appears as a square, the font or app may not support its display.

What 𘡂 means

It is a Tangut component, not a complete Tangut word. A component is a structural part of a character; when it is used to file characters in a dictionary, it serves as a radical. Read 𘡂 as a part of a larger Tangut character, not as a word with its own English gloss.

In 1036, the Western Xia court commissioned the Tangut script for government and cultural writing, including Buddhist texts; having a native script also marked political identity. A Tangut manuscript found at the ruins of Khara-Khoto probably dates to the 12th or early 13th century, showing the script in use beyond its founding era.

Tangut writing uses character-building principles also seen in Chinese, but it is a distinct script. Neighboring Khitan rulers had also sponsored scripts for their courts. Western Xia dictionaries grouped entries by sound, while modern dictionaries use differing radical-and-stroke systems. In 𗏇, 𘡂 is the radical, and eight additional strokes complete the character.

How do I enter 𘡂?

Use a Tangut input method and a font that supports Tangut. Tangut IME Online offers reverse lookup, handwriting, and code input; with a RIME dictionary loaded, its candidates can include Tangut components. Xunpin RIME documents component, stroke, and four-corner input.

As of 2026, Tangut IME Online warns that some mobile apps may not render Tangut text; its Noto Serif Tangut and Tangut Yinchuan Beta fallback fonts also have different styles.

Technical and archival: this character belongs to Tangut-script study, dictionary lookup, and component input.

Why does 𘡂 appear as a square?

Usually, the current font or app lacks a Tangut glyph for it. The square is a display fallback, not another reading of the character.
