Tangut Component 110

110/768

𘡭 is Tangut component 110, a structural piece used to find and describe Tangut characters, not a word with its own translation. Tangut, also called Xixia, was created under Western Xia around 1036 CE to write its language. “110” is Unicode’s catalog label, not an ancient Tangut name.

What 𘡭 means

It helps scholars find and describe Tangut characters.

Components and stroke order help scholars locate Tangut characters in dictionaries. Some serve as Tangut radicals—lookup keys for grouping entries—but inventories differ; Unicode combines several scholarly systems.

How did Tangut outlast Western Xia?

It continued after the state fell.

Tangut appears in official, private, and religious texts. It continued under Yuan and Ming rule after the Mongol conquest, then fell out of use by the Ming dynasty’s end.

Rediscovered in the late 19th century, Tangut was largely deciphered through N. A. Nevskij’s early 20th-century work. Its characters resemble Chinese writing, but Tangut is a distinct script.

1

Why does 𘡭 show as a box on some devices?

Not every system ships a font for the Tangut Components block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.
