What 𘥩 means
It is a reference component, not a word to translate. Component 362 belongs to the system used to index and analyze complete Tangut characters.
The Tangut script writes the Tangut language; this component on its own does not name a spoken word or sound.
Why was the Tangut script created?
It gave the Tangut language its own writing system in Western Xia. Created about 1036 CE under Western Xia’s first emperor, the script was used for the Tangut language. Surviving records include Buddhist religious texts, Chinese classics translated into Tangut, dictionaries, law codes, literature, and other documents. One interpretation connects the separate script with Western Xia’s wish to mark cultural and political distance from Song China.
Writing continued during the Yuan and Ming dynasties after Western Xia fell, then the script became obsolete by the end of the Ming. Modern researchers use component labels like 𘥩 to analyze and look up Tangut characters.
Why does 𘥩 show as a box?
A box means the font lacks Tangut coverage. 𘥩 is a text character drawn by your font. Without a font that includes Tangut, it may display a placeholder box instead of its strokes.
Questions people ask
1Why does 𘥩 show as a box on some devices?
Because that device's fonts have no glyph for it. The character is still correct and still copies correctly — the box is a missing glyph, not a broken character.
