What 𗪧 means
The Unicode-style label is an inventory tag, not its meaning.
The Tangut script was created under the first emperor of Western Xia (Xixia) around 1036 for official and cultural writing.
After Western Xia fell, Tangut writing remained in official, private, and religious texts, including books, Buddhist sutras (religious scriptures), inscriptions, and manuscripts.
A 2008 dictionary records 𗪧’s reconstructed reading as śjụ¹. This scholarly transcription represents an inferred sound, not an English gloss.
Why does 𗪧 show as a box?
A Tangut-capable font must contain the glyph.
This is a text character, so its displayed shape comes from the device’s font. If that font lacks Tangut coverage, the device may show a missing-glyph box; that is a font-support problem.
Historical and specialist: it points to Tangut writing, its study, or font support.
Without a Tangut-capable font, a recipient may see a missing-glyph box.

Questions people ask
1Why does 𗪧 show as a box on some devices?
Not every system ships a font for the Tangut block. Where none is installed, the character shows as an empty box; adding a font such as Noto fixes it. The character itself is still correct and copies correctly.

fsymbols draws rare signs with its own fonts, so they show here even where your device has none. An app or website without such a font shows an empty box (□) or a question mark instead. Turn our fonts off to see each sign as your device draws it by itself: a box here means a box in your chats and documents too.
