What 𘄉 means
“To clear away.” In Li Fanwen’s Tangut dictionary, this is the English gloss for entry L0666. The character alone does not say what is cleared; the surrounding Tangut sentence supplies the object.
The square form can resemble Chinese writing, but 𘄉 belongs to the Tangut script, which records a different language. Most Tangut characters were not borrowed from Chinese.
The Tangut script was promulgated in 1036 for the Western Xia state’s official language and Buddhist translations. The state fell in 1227, but Yuan and Ming inscriptions show continued use. Chinese writing was a conceptual model; comparisons with Khitan and Jurchen scripts describe structural similarities, not proven descent. Who created the script is disputed. The 1036 date belongs to the script, not to a known first appearance of 𘄉.
Historical and specialized; the English dictionary gloss is a verb, so its object comes from the sentence.
Without its Tangut sentence, you cannot tell what is being cleared.

1Why does 𘄉 show as a box?
It is a font issue: 𘄉 is text, and the active font must include Tangut characters. A box or blank means the app cannot draw that glyph; it does not change the encoded character.
